In the Domesday book it is noted that some of the land of Badley
belonged
to St Etheldreda. This is a reference to the Monastery of that name at
Ely
which no longer exists. As well as having a share in the lands of
Badley, Etheldreda owned land
in other parts of England, most notably in the City of London. There is
an
area bordering Hatton Gardens which is still accredited to the Diocese
of
Ely. Ely Place is a cul-de-sac, at the end of which is the Roman
Catholic
Church of St. Etheldreda.
Details of how this Monastery came to own said
lands can be found at:-
